EARTH WOMYN AND OTHER SHORT LESBIAN FEMINIST STORIES, Emily George, Dykebooks, Melbourne, 1994    84 pages

There are eleven short stories in this small collection which range across a variety of topics from lesbian lovemaking, fantasy and biological family interactions to circus training, incest and the anti-Bicentennial. The locations are anywhere from Women’s Liberation Headquarters in Melbourne to a Lesbian Music Festival in Aotearoa, from a hole in the ground to the streets of Paris and everywhere in between. Written with a minimum of humour but in a direct and straightforward manner the stories reflect our lesbian lives in all their weird, wonderful, painful and joyous diversity.

PROFILE OF A CO-ADDICT, Emily George, Dykebooks, Melbourne, 1991    25 pages

This is a long short story of a lesbian coming to the realisation that how and who she loves is not consistent with the kind of strong, caring, responsible and competent lesbian she imagines herself to be. Being in love and in pain had become such a familiar state of being it takes awhile for her to work out what she’s doing wrong, particularly when it comes to choosing her lovers, and even longer to recognise the co-dependent habits she had acquired and then to work out how she might change them.
